A free community event to share skills, repair damaged items and enjoy a neighbourly cuppa. typical repair skills available include:
clothing and fabric repairs and patches, loose or missing buttons, toys, small furniture items {chairs, indoor and outdoor}, crockery, kitchen utensils including pots and pans, bric a brac, replacing zip sliders on outdoor bag and camping equipment, musical boxes, garden tools, some jewellery items, shoe sole resurfacing.

Skill share demonstration examples include: bicycle maintenance, button repairs, hemming jeans, useful origami items, bunting, reusable bags and much more. Click here for more details.

Tamar NRM partners with Clean Up Australia, City of Launceston Council, George Town Council, West Tamar Council and Plastic Free Launceston for the Largest Community Clean up event in Northern Tasmania. Now in its 4th year, Catch it in the Catchment invites communities along kanamaluka/the Tamar Estuary to help prevent rubbish (predominantly plastics) from entering this important estuarine environment.

This week-long event invites members of the community, schools, sports clubs, social groups, businesses, family and friends to nominate a few hours and a site to target for a quick clean-up. Click here for details.

Join SoHo as they present the film 'Demain' as part of a series of film events relating to sustainability issues. 

‘Demain’ is a 2017 film which showcases inspiring sustainability initiatives being taken by individuals and communities from around the world.

Join us as we raise awareness, start a dialogue and take action relating to various sustainability/climate change/environmental issues. The film will be followed by a short Q and A lead by sustainability experts. Attendees will be given the opportunity to discuss concepts of sustainability in the context of their communities. ‘Demain’ will be the first film in the series of four to be shown over the next 12 months.

This event is thanks to funding provided by the Hobart City Council Community Grant.

Entry is film will be free and anyone is welcome to attend the screening.

ST MARYS REPURPOSING AND UPCYCLING WORKING BEE

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY NOVEMBER 19 & 20, 2022

9AM - 4PM

St Marys Repurposing and Upcycling is a community group that breathes new life into old clothing otherwise destined for landfill.

Damaged clothing is upcycled with repairs, patches, fabric paint, and other adornments, rendering it wearable.

Other items are repurposed into shopping bags, garden ties, woven mats, pet bedding and toys, pouffes, etc.

All goods are sold at the St Marys Market with proceeds used to support group activities.

The group needs your help to process the high volume of clothing currently in stock. 

Everyone is welcome, no skills required, all new ideas happily received, and attendance is free of charge.

Drop in any time and stay as long as you like. Tea, coffee and snacks will be available for a gold coin donation.
