Let’s talk energy efficiency this Seniors Week
Are you looking for simple ways to bring down your energy costs and keep your home comfortable, all year round? Join Sustainable Living Tasmania and TasNetworks at a free energy efficiency session, followed by a complimentary morning/afternoon tea.
We'll discuss the following topics:
- The parts in your home that use the most electricity and the areas to prioritise for maximum cost savings
- How to heat and cool your home cost-effectively
- Simple ways you can use less energy while at home and easy ways to improve efficiency
If you'd also like some additional support to make sense of your electricity bill, bring it along on the day to receive free and independent advice from the Sustainable Living Tasmania Team.

Celebrating Tasmanian Native Plants at Carr Villa

Discovery Series 08FREE EVENTJoin specialist amateur botanist Roy Skabo, with a Tasmanian native plant 'walk and talk' from Carr Villa Flora Reserve, Kings Meadows.The little patch of remnant bushland surrounded on three sides by Launceston’s cemetery is a very special place for native plant lovers. This flora reserve is home to more than 150 species of native plants, many of them registered on the threatened species list. There are at least 19 different orchids in this little bushland, along with numerous colourful herbs and shrubs.This excursion, during the peak flowering season, will open participants’ eyes to this botanical treasure in the heart of suburban Launceston.For more information contact: [email protected] or click hereWear: Sturdy walking shoes, sun protective clothing, and a hat. Discovery Series 09FREE EVENTJoin specialist amateur botanist Roy Skabo for a 'walk and talk' from Cataract Gorge, First Basin to Sentinel Lookout and return.For most people First Basin is a delightful park with flowering shrubs, huge trees and green lawns dissected by a beautiful river.For native plant lovers it is special for another reason: the remnant native vegetation around the Basin and along the river’s edge. This is a harsh environment for plants; regular flooding, hot, dry summers and lots of rocks. Despite this, the Basin is a hot spot for threatened native plants like the south esk heath (Epacris exserta). In springtime, the beautiful native flowers are at their peak, providing an impressive display of colour.This excursion will make people aware of the important natural values of Cataract Gorge and First Basin.For more information contact: [email protected] or click hereWear: Sturdy walking shoes, sun-protective clothing, and a hat. ST MARYS UPCYCLING AND REPURPOSING WORKING BEE
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY OCTOBER 22 & 23 2022
9AM - 4PM
St Marys Repurposing and Upcycling is a community group that breathes new life into old clothing otherwise destined for landfill.
Damaged clothing is upcycled with repairs, patches, fabric paint, and other adornments, rendering it wearable.
Other items are repurposed into shopping bags, garden ties, woven mats, pet bedding and toys, pouffes, etc.
All goods are sold at the St Marys Market with proceeds used to support group activities.
The group needs your help to process the high volume of clothing currently in stock.
Everyone is welcome, no skills required, all new ideas happily received, and attendance is free of charge.
Drop in any time and stay as long as you like. Tea, coffee and snacks will be available for a gold coin donation.
