We have been working in partnership with FIMBY to run gardening and cooking workshops in Clarendon Vale and Rokeby with funding from Mission Australia. Over the past year, Lissa (SLT) and Christina (FIMBY) have planted out gardens and harvested veggies in the new community garden with Clarendon Vale Primary Students, and harvested fresh veggies and cooked up a storm with students from Bayview Secondary College. We have also been working with a small team of local adults and students to run regular garden pizza parties using locally harvested produce and student-made pizza dough, sauce, pesto and syrups. These workshops culminated in the group catering for the official opening of the Clarence Plains Community Garden, serving garden made vegetable pizzas, dips, fruit syrup mocktails and dessert pizzas to a crowd of nearly 200 VIPs and community members.

What’s the impact of our wardrobes? Australians are the second largest consumers of fashion in the world, each year consuming on average a whopping 27 kilos of textiles! We want to research the impact of this, by firstly finding out about Tasmanians’ relationship with fashion. We’ll be writing a weekly blog post detailing our findings and ways we can all work to reduce the impact of the fashion industry.

We've had a good response so far to our Host Your Own Living Local Feast initiative, but we are still looking for more hosts. One of the first supporter-hosted Living Local Feasts was held recently, by passionate forager and local foodie, Deb. Guests were treated to homemade cheeses, foraged cocktails, acorn spelt bread and other tasty tassie treats for entree. This was followed by an impressive mains spread (pictured) of locally hunted and gathered goodies, and poached quince and walnut cake with quince whey sorbet and clotted cream to finish it off. What a great way to celebrate being a Tassievore and support the great work of SLT. Thanks Deb!!

Don't feel daunted by this amazing effort, there are so many ways to Host Your Own Living Local Feast! It can be as simple as inviting friends around to enjoy some Tassie wines and cheeses or you could hold a potluck picnic in the park or make a group booking at a restaurant that focuses on seasonal local food.
