Live & Learn short course
Live and Learn Course

Want to gain and share knowledge, skills and motivation with peers? If so, then our Live & Learn short course is perfect for you. It provides a great overview of sustainable living across different aspects of your life: energy, building, transport, food, water, waste and living. Our next course runs from Oct 14 to Nov 25, on Wednesdays evenings at our event space. We're planning courses in Launceston and Penguin in early 2016.

Don’t Waste Hobart
Don’t Waste Hobart

Our #DontWasteHobart social media campaign is attracting great interest and inspiring people to reduce waste across Hobart. Nearly 20,000 people were reached through Facebook last week alone. If you have a question about recycling, post it publicly on social media using the #DontWasteHobart hashtag and we’ll find the answer for you. During the months of Oct, Nov and Dec, Mobile Muster is giving us $5 for every phone we recycle through SLT. Help us and reduce waste by bringing your phones and accessories to the Mobile Muster bin at our office or the Sustainable Living Festival.

Science of the Hive – festival presentation
Science of the Hive

Get a glimpse of the fascinating world of bees at our special presentation ‘Science of the Hive’, supported by Inspiring Australia. As part of our Sustainable Living Festival, the presentation will include CSIRO’s Bee Project team; Stu Anderson will be showing his new invention, the Flow Hive; and Yves Ginat from Miellerie Honey will discuss natural beekeeping in Tasmania. And there will be free honey tastings! There are other fantastic talks and workshops lined up for our vibrant weekend festival on 31 Oct - 1 Nov including: Living Simply; Smart Building Design; Sustainable Transport; Master-Planning Your Home and Garden; and Backyard Food Growing.

We'd like to thank our special sponsor Bendigo Bank
Bendigo Bank

This edition of our eNews is sponsored by Bendigo Bank. We're happy to partner with them as they have good environmental policies (e.g. no investment in fossil fuels) and a great community attitude (e.g. supporting Community Banks® that invest profits back in their own neighbourhoods). As a special offer, Bendigo bank is currently giving SLT $150 for every successful home loan application from SLT members. Contact them to find out about their products and philosophy.
